Doctor Resignation - Chapter 11
I locked myself in my room during my free time to study a new method of paternity testing.
If the results were easy to obtain, this experiment wouldn’t be too difficult because I have little knowledge of tests.
Once I am confident about the herbs’ ratio in the paternity experiment test, I will go to Perelman to get additional herbs for more thorough research.
“Could you give me some Etof petals?”
I have obtained all the ingredients needed for this experiment thanks to Jenny. But I thought I’d try to get Etof petals myself.
Because the petals can be used as poison if consumed for a long time.
That’s why I asked Perelman separately.
Besides, I am a newcomer and an outsider in the Casseus Duchy. Of course, people will be wary of my request.
As expected, Perelman refused emphatically.
He was cold even when I was about to defend my own request.
“Now you have two options.”
“Get lost right now or……”
But suddenly his eyes bulged. The Duchess is indeed not in very good shape.
After the Duke died, the Duchess fell ill almost every day. Erhan, who is the only child in the family, suffers from an unknown disease. He is the only blood to inherit the Casseus Duchy.
“……tell me your reason. But whatever it is, I won’t believe it and it will probably be a waste of my time.”
Perelman likes me because I am smart and exceeded his expectations. But I can’t access the lab easily if he keeps wary of me.
It is natural for a doctor to provide good care for his patients. That’s why I don’t intend to waver in front of him and speak as calmly as possible.
I just have to give my all in negotiating with Perelman.
“Then can you read my report first?”
I gave him a brief report that I had carefully prepared. His ace hardened after reading the report title.
‘Paternity Test Simplification Research’
“As you can see from the contents, you have to combine the Efron paste and Syrika root in a 3:1 ratio. Next, boil them in a flask for 80 hours before you add some Etof petals……”
Perelman was examining the report while listening to my explanation. His eyes were focused on each text on all the pages.
“……we can also speed up the paternity test since the procedures are fairly simple.”
“Oh my God, how the hell did you……”
“I was trying to match the number of Etof petals until the end of this experiment. But if you don’t trust me, you can try experimenting with it yourself.”
Perelman seems to understand everything from just a simple report. It’s quite a complicated report, but he’s smart.
Yet, this smart man also failed to save Erhan. My shoulders are heavy with all the burdens.
“This research….., oh my God.”
“Well yeah, I’m a genius.”
The combination of the herbs stated inside the reports was rare, but there is no need to explain further.
Instead, Perelman just shrugged his shoulders and said nothing.
“I just did some research because I thought it might be useful for you.“
He is outspoken, cold, and hard to like. But if you look closely, he’s just a pathetic person.
He lost his wife and daughter. Plus, he lost his close friend, the Duke, and lives in the Duchy because he felt guilty for his death. His mental health was not so good that I felt sorry for him.
Perelman could not smile freely because he felt he had no right to do so.
But his arrogant and stubborn personality was still natural.
“I’m not doing this out of curiosity or wanting any compensation,” I said it calmly just to avoid misunderstanding. “You gave me your daughter’s room, so I just wanted to help.”
Perelman sighed while placing his palm on his forehead. He probably thought that I would not know about her daughter’s incident.
I want to go out naturally after seeing him like that. Well, I didn’t expect him to apologize or thank me for the research.
However, he didn’t look me in the eye until the end and must be regretting his decision right now.
“If I were you, of course, I wouldn’t give Etof petals to my assistant carelessly.” I tried to comfort him but I didn’t think he would understand.
“Then please rest. I will continue to work on this research. Well…… I think we can get better results if we study it more seriously.”
Please fall for it! Let me use your lab!
“Your daughter’s room is too cute to be used as a research office. Oh, of course, I really like that room.”
I added just in case he tries to take my cozy and comfortable room. Wasting no time, I ran out of his office.
Perelman clicked his tongue once more as he read the contents of the report written by Lise.
His previous assistants struggled to get close to him in various ways. Indeed he was renowned for his medical skills across the continent. But unfortunately, he couldn’t continue researching because of the disappearance of his wife and daughter.
He was disturbed because the Duchess asked him to stay. If it weren’t for his guilt, he wouldn’t have chosen to stay.
But Lise was different.
She is the youngest yet most knowledgeable in the medical field. She doesn’t act feeble and sweet.
Lise showed her skills in her own way that set her apart from the previous assistants.
The thoughts of the two of them were strangely similar and it made it easier for them to communicate even though they weren’t close.
Jenny is a maid who has been with him since he was born. Somehow it was a little satisfying after seeing Jenny become close to Lise.
The Dukedom situation was bad because there weren’t enough people to be stationed in a certain area. Plus, the medical office had very few workers.
But, a talented young child appeared at the right time.
It was true that Lise was an expert in the field of medicine, but he couldn’t help being wary of her existence.
“Did you see anything suspicious in the meantime?”
“Just….., there was a rather unusual day.”
“She just wrote in her only notebook that she brought here since the first day. She wrote something while taking care of the young master.”
Arga took the paper Jenny gave him and started reading it.
“Just in case, I’ve copied everything, but I don’t know what it means….., other than that there’s nothing suspicious.”
Arga frowned as he quickly looked at the copy of Jenny’s note.
Lise didn’t use any potions that were harmful. Instead, she tried all kinds of proper treatments.
The notes she wrote were very detailed and thorough. She used mana injection, which required careful control of the right amount.
Arga sighed without him realizing it and muttered, still looking at the note. “I think you can stop watching her.” He had never been as relieved as he was now.
Not only was her skill good, but her notes seemed to be very detailed and organized.
The result was a success and this would not have been possible if Lise had not been sincere in giving the prescription.
She tried all these methods but didn’t report to me?
He guessed that she wasn’t trying to show off but was sincerely prescribing medicine for her patient.
He cleared his throat and spoke haughtily. “Send Lise a cake. Please pass on my message, Thank you. I’m sorry for suspecting you.”
As expected, Jenny looked surprised.
Perelman turned his face away from her confused look and frowned.
“I have something to do. I don’t really care about her. Please don’t think of anything strange.”
“I still think that my daughter is my top priority. Even if Lise is using my daughter’s room, I don’t want to be particularly nice to her.”
“Of course, sir.”
Jenny added, “But, I don’t think you should give her a cake.”
“Then, what else?”
“Actually, yesterday the Duchess had sent her a huge strawberry cake.“
Perelman gasped as his mouth opened widely. He thought he heard wrongly but Jenny was definitely not joking.
Then he remembered that the Duchess asked about Lise’s favorite a few days ago.
He remembered that he said ‘something sweet’. Also, the pudding that they ate during the first formal lunch was sweet, so he thought she might really love sugary dishes.
So that’s the reason!
He unwittingly clasped his hand and frowned.
“I heard that madam had a headache at night. I guess she really liked how Lise treated her.”
He caught a glimpse of the Duchess’ condition in Lise’s medical journal.
After considering proper prescription and mana injection, he just thought that the treatment was excellent and perfect.
Of course, putting in mana is a delicate task, but he was a little impressed that it made the Duchess satisfied.
“So a three-tier cake full of strawberry….., no matter how sweet the cake I bought, she won’t be craving for it today.”
Perelman’s expression became more serious.
Jenny was slightly taken aback by the next mutter.
“……why didn’t I think of this before?”
Perelman raised his glasses with a more serious look than ever.
“Find out what else Lise likes.”
“But if you ask her yourself……”
“She will misunderstand. Well, she’ll think I like her.”
“You have to find out. There must be something else she likes besides cakes.”
“I will follow your orders, sir.”
Just as Jenny was about to leave, Perelman exclaimed as if something had come to mind.
“There’s one more thing to watch out for.”
“Please speak, sir.”
“Never let the Duchess know about this.”
Jenny, who was about to say something, shook her head and left the office.
