Doctor Resignation - Chapter 4
“As you know, I am a busy person.”
After the test was over, Perelman glanced at me and spoke in a low and cynical tone.
“Of course, my lord.”
“I am also quite busy with my personal business.”
His personal problem of work was probably about finding his lost daughter.
“My assistant always stayed in this mansion. If there is a problem with the medical prescription, call him immediately. I am sure you are not stupid.”
I nodded calmly as I ate my last pudding.
“If there is a stupid doctor, it will cause great trouble, my lord.”
“Fortunately, I don’t think you are stupid at all. I will introduce you to Her Grace the Duchess of Casseus and His future Grace, Erhan Casseus.”
He beckoned a servant to do something.
Soon, three plates of pudding were served in front of me.
“If the pudding is so good, you have to ask for more and not eat it bit by bit. I can’t stand to see your struggles.”
‘Man, he truly has a talent that where people can hardly say thank you to him.’
It would be nice if you said that I am good rather than useful.
“Today was quite difficult. Baron Ishid and Young Master Frederick are here today, so I will be busy.”
As I chewed on my precious pudding, I nearly bit my tongue at Perelman’s words.
‘Frederick? Erhan’s cousin? The one who started the rebellion and brought this Dukedom to ashes?!’
If I have no sense of commitment and duty as a doctor, I would be planning to kill him.
Medical knowledge has a lot of poison’s learning area. And I already mastered them.
Too bad, I have high self-esteem.
‘It is a knowledge I learned to save people, not to kill.’
Even if it’s for the purpose of personal revenge or to change the future, I don’t want to kill people with my knowledge.
‘So now Frederick is here with his father.’
I gritted my teeth as I remembered the time when they easily took control of everything almost in a split second.
‘Come to think of it, the situation itself was suspicious. It was as if they were planning to rebel from the very beginning.’
It was indeed suspicious as if the Baron was waiting for Erhan’s death.
He even entered the Duchy with his only son, Frederick. Moreover, the complicated process of selecting an heir of noble families would take about a month or two. But, when Erhan died, it was decided immediately.
And the next day, they said they would join the rebel army.
One philosopher once said that if something has been prepared for a long time, it will surely succeed. It seemed they had schemed from the start.
I barely swallowed my pudding. It’s hard to eat as I get goosebumps thinking about all the theories.
‘Don’t tell me…… my theory is correct?’
After the meal, I took a walk around the Duchy with Jenny.
This was my first time living in such a large house, so I couldn’t help but be curious.
Everywhere is colorful and everything is neatly arranged.
‘This wonderful place was completely ruined back then……’
At that time, I had been treating the injured rebels without saying a word because of Frederick and his advisor’s command. But I also secretly took care of the injured citizens.
As we walked together, Jenny said,
“As expected, the lunch was a success.”
“Not much happened. I just have to meet up with the Madam and little Duke tomorrow.”
“Then it really was a huge success.”
Jenny gave a thumbs up and smiled gently.
“Normally, would-be assistants shed tears for almost a week while Sir Perelman lectures them strictly. But seeing that you will be introduced to the Madam and little Duke, you must be really talented, Miss.”
“Well, I have all the requirements and the qualities to become a doctor.”
I replied calmly as if it was natural. Then Jenny laughed and said,
“My lord was very busy. His burden may be lifted if he has a reliable assistant like you.”
“He works in the upper office, doesn’t he?”
“Yes,” said Jenny.
She sighed and continued, “Actually, he was busy looking for his daughter all over the continent.”
I didn’t know there would be a heartbreaking story behind Perelman’s past.
“But when his close friend, Duke Casseus, was in critical condition, he wasn’t by his side. And in the end, the Duke died…… because of guilt, he couldn’t leave this place.”
Jenny added, “He is a poor man. I hope you don’t take his words too much.”
Not surprising though, he even bought clothes for his missing daughter and threw them away after the season ended.
I could feel his desperation.
But, he never found his daughter in the end. Perelman died on Frederick’s hand before having an opportunity to find his lost daughter.
This time, I’m going to stick close to Erhan and save him somehow, so maybe Perelman can find his daughter.
As I was walking in the beautiful flower garden with such thoughts, I heard a quarrel coming from somewhere.
“Erhan, how come you can’t catch the ball? As expected, there is something wrong with you. You better not move your body.”
Hearing the name of the person I’ve been looking for, I hastily turned my head.
“People think you are weird. I’ve warned you many times, there’s no need to exercise regularly or you’ll become a laughing stock among the nobles. You’ve been sick since you were little after all.”
Wait, who is that noisy guy?
I peeked through a place I didn’t even know where it was.
There, there was a boy who looked to be seventeen years old who was chattering in front of the thin thirteen-year-old Erhan.
I know who that boy is. Light brown hair and dark red eyes like the dawn. He is Frederick.
In front of him is Erhan, who is much shorter than me, holding the ball with a pitiful look.
“And you will gain a lot of weight even if you eat less. Eating a lot is also a sign of a child who will always be sick like you, you will end up lying in bed if you eat a lot.”
Frederick was constantly trying to manipulate Erhan.
Erhan bowed his head and said quietly, “I understand……”
“So don’t eat too much. You don’t want to be a pig, do you? If you’re hungry, eat the cake I gave you.”
I let go of Jenny’s hand that was holding me firmly.
Jenny looked at me with her eyes wide, surprised when I suddenly let go of her hand.
I replied calmly, “Please get out of the way, Jenny. I have a place to go.”
“I can’t let you go alone because the path is—”
“I’ve memorized all the paths in the mansion.”
After convincing Jenny, I walked across the garden.
