Doctor Resignation - Chapter 7
The next morning, Perelman handed over some medical journals to me.
“We will be greeting the Duchess and the Master Erhan this afternoon. So please read and understand all of the information.”
Jenny gasped at the ridiculous amount of journals that piled up from the desk.
“M-my lord….., this is quite a lot, Sir. You should have delivered this to Miss Lise yesterday.”
“No, it’s not.”
Then, I interrupted them in a leisurely manner of speaking.
“This much is possible.”
Jenny picked out some pretty clothes and braided my hair as I began to look at the medical journals carefully.
“This is too much.” Jenny sighed. “I would never ask a thirteen-year-old assistant to memorize medical journals like this.”
“Of course, Jenny would,” I answered lightly.
“We couldn’t just pass on the Dukedom personal information to an assistant. Why would he……”
“I am going to stay here as an employee. At least six years? I thought you had noticed that.”
Then, I calmly began to read the next journal.
The Duchess suffers from chronic headaches and intermittent abdominal pain.
This is because of stress. Also, Perelman himself gave her a very proper prescription every time she suffered from a headache.
Surely he is a good doctor. He was different from the doctors I met before I returned to the past.
But why did she die suddenly in six years? The prescription itself is already appropriate.
Of course, there was a bigger problem.
It was Erhan Iliad Casseus.
It is said that he sometimes suffered from a high fever that comes with a seizure. In addition, an unidentified stomach ache, headache, and toothache.
Of course, every time, Perelman attempted to save Erhan and treated him well, but it was only temporary because Perelman did not know the cause of his suffering.
‘Perelman is too busy with the search for his daughter so that’s why he can’t possibly stick to him every day. Maybe I can figure out the factor if I take a closer look.’
That was my first and unconditional goal.
‘Then we can somehow develop a cure. Six years is enough.’
To make it possible, I had to do some research. Also, study some herbs and other necessities for the research. I need Perelman’s support too.
If I said that I knew how the future would unfold, I would be kicked out and labeled as crazy.
‘I have to be able to use Perelman’s laboratory as much as I can. At least when he’s out for some errands.’
If I am recognized because of my skill he would be trusting me to take care of the medical faction in the Casseus Duchy. He would also apply for leave and search for his daughter.
I will also have some advantages and can use his lab to develop something new. Also, I can use all types of materials and apparatus for my own research.
That’s the second goal: to make the laboratory accessible.
After interpreting and understanding all of the medical journals, I was determined to unfold the mystery.
“This is my new assistant, Your Grace.”
Perelman introduced me with no particular and unnecessary information.
I greeted both of the high aristocrats with good manners. “I am Lise Estelle. I look forward to your kind cooperation, Duchess and Young Master.”
“This is quite unexpected.”
Isabel Cecilia Cerseus is the Duchess of Casseus. She doesn’t look very well and is healthy.
However, she appeared to be much younger in her late 30s. She has shimmering platinum silver hair and black eyes.
Strangely, the coolness of her eyes was quite similar to Erhan.
Perelman did not point out much of her. He had a little expression, much like his cold-hearted personality.
“I can’t believe you introduced me to a new assistant after three days. Didn’t they usually quit before introducing themselves?” The Duchess glared at me before continuing, “And you look pretty young.”
“She’s thirteen,” Perelman answered after sipping his tea. “She is of the age in which intelligence is not necessarily proportional. I almost finished my current medical knowledge when I was thirteen.”
I nodded my head.
He looked like he was going to cut me off but it didn’t bother me much.
I said, “So do I.”
Erhan, who was sitting next to the Duchess, smiled slightly at me.
I always tell the truth, but I don’t know why both Jenny and Erhan were giggling.
The Duchess’ gaze at me showed signs of unreliability and disapproval.
Of course, it’s not something I don’t understand. Even Perelman, Erhan, and Jenny looked like that when they first saw me.
“Well.” The Duchess lowered her eyes. “So you’re the assistant. Your talent of being a doctor….., I was wondering if you are doing well?”
“I am good at anything, Your Grace.”
“Oh is that so?”
“I don’t have much patience with stupidity.”
I understood the words and nodded quietly.
“Is there something you’d like to ask, Your Grace?” Perelman changed the subject.
“It’s not that, I just have a few headaches every day, and I get a stomach ache when I drink milk.”
“Lise,” Perelman called me. “Please prescribe the medicine.”
I replied clearly, “As you usually prescribe, you can add the oasis grass and the daeron root to use them as medicine. Why don’t you avoid dairy products as much as you can? And if you can’t, would you mind using crone’s petal?”
“But if the headache doesn’t stop?”
“Please use esta cerelony therapy.”
Perelman nodded and looked at Erhan.
“Is everything all right with you, sir?”
“Try to control your diet and exercise. Are you doing well with that?”
I shook my head inwardly.
I knew that he never made any efforts. It seemed that he had a habit of lying to Perelman.
“Lise, what are you going to do if the young master suddenly falls down?”
“It depends on the symptoms, but I will follow the basic policy in the Zebelion Manual and contact you immediately since the cause is unknown.”
“Yes, well done.”
After studying the medical journals this morning, I felt that both Perelman and I have the same prescription for the patients.
Perhaps that is because we have the same opinion about the disease.
Perelman smiled without him realizing it, but I could tell after observing him for the last three days.
It was clear that he liked my answer quite a lot.
“From now on, we’re going to have Lise as the doctor for a while. If you feel uncomfortable Your Grace, please contact Lise.”
“……what?” The Duchess frowned. “A 13-year-old assistant…… She only has 3 days of experience. Are you saying that she will be the one who treated the Duchess?”
Sharpness was expressed in her tone of voice. Her voice was full of anxiety and a chill ran down my spine.
“I will watch her until I am confident enough to have her handle everything….., no, until I completely trust her,” Perelman said firmly.
Perelman continued, “I am thinking of visiting the Irvia region.”
Irvia is a southern region where people have to cross the sea quite far by ship.
Seeing that the Duchess could not say anything, it seemed that he would be going to find his daughter.
They said both the Duchess and Perelman have a contract that includes searching for his daughter.
“I will be treating you, for now, Your Grace. But if you don’t trust her, please let me know. I will try to stay longer and delay my departure.”
There was a moment of silence.
The Duchess was forced to nod.
“I understand the situation because I was once in that situation, Sir Perelman.”
But with a tone of voice like a cold wind as if she could never trust me. This atmosphere gives me goosebumps.
“Honestly, that’s understandable. No matter what, I will try to devote all my efforts as a doctor to the Duchy. I fully understand your concerns, but just trust me for a while.”
No matter how cold the Duchess is, I am not particularly worried.
This is because I have no reason to lose the trust of the Duchess with my current skill. I’m more competent than she thought I was.
“I am quite talented in medicine.”
The Duchess sighed as if at a loss for words and gave up completely.
I’m just saying the right things, but trust is something I have to build on my own skills.
Instead of persuading her any longer, I made another plan on my mind.
‘Perelman is planning to go to Irvia soon, to find his daughter.’
Irvia is quite far away, and it will take a long time to run a paternity test there.
Plus I can study to my heart’s content if I get permission to use the lab.
