Doctor Resignation - Chapter 9
The next day, Jenny carefully knocked on the door and came in.
“Young Lady.”
As I was looking at the book, I raised my head and she said with a slightly surprised face. “The Madam sent a gift.”
“A gift?”
“Yes….., she heard that the young lady likes something sweet.”
I don’t remember saying that.
‘Wait.’
On second thought, on the first day, I had said that to Viscount Perelman. Surely the Duchess must have asked him what I liked.
“So the madam sent you a strawberry cake.”
“Oh, is that so? Then, I will eat well. But the size is……”
I almost fainted when I saw the tray Jenny was pushing carefully. I’ve never seen such a big cake in my life. I think everyone could eat a piece of it if I brought it to the orphanage.
I opened a short note on the cake with trembling hands.
[I feel very refreshed this morning because I slept well.
I heard you like something sweet. I sent you a small gift in the hope that you will have a good afternoon.
I’m trying to get the head dessert chef of the Imperial Palace, so wait a moment.]
A small gift? The head dessert chef of Imperial Palace?
No matter how rich the Casseus Duchy is, this is a shocking scale. I muttered with a perplexed look. “I think I can eat this for three months and ten days.”
“If you don’t like it, she told me to return it to the kitchen immediately and dismiss the chef.”
“Oh, no.”
I just got to know her not long ago, but it was true that the Duchess was extremely odd.
Anyway, I couldn’t eat it all alone. I even felt like I had to eat it for a few days. I was contemplating for a moment then clapped my hands and said, “Then can I eat it with Erhan? It’s too much for me alone.”
I’m sure he’s doing nothing in his room, anyway.
‘The more you lie down, the more you lose energy and your body becomes limp……’
I have to get close to him quickly so that I can execute my plans.
There was a difference in status, so I had to wag my tail first.

“My mother sent you a cake?” Erhan asked with his head tilted.
“Yes.”
I gave Erhan a piece of cake and said, eating three bites. “I helped her last night because she couldn’t sleep well.”
“How?”
“Why?”
“……I can’t sleep well at night either.”
“That’s because you don’t move around much and you don’t get exposed to the sun.” I added calmly, “Sir Erhan’s headache is a little different from Madam’s.”
“But……”
“If you can’t sleep, would you like me to help you sleep well tonight?“
Erhan stared at me.
“You’re amazing.”
“Yes?”
“You said that yesterday. You’ll be able to get recognition from my mother.”
“Oh, that’s not much,” I replied nonchalantly. “Now you know I’m not lying, right?”
“Alright.”
Erhan nodded as he ate the last piece of the cake.
“I will listen to you. So make sure I can sleep well tonight.”
“Shall we? Give me your hand for a second……”
Holding hands was the easiest way to check someone’s mana.
I grabbed his hand and was shocked.
“S-Sir Erhan?“
I jumped up and touched his forehead. I thought he was fine because he was talking and eating cake casually.
“Doesn’t your head hurt? Why didn’t you tell me when you had a fever like this?”
I thought I could tell if someone was sick just by looking at their complexion, but I didn’t notice it at all.
“……”
Erhan quietly avoided my eyes.
“No way, are you afraid I’ll be bothered…..? Like all the assistants?”
“My mother said I shouldn’t show my weakness to strangers easily.”
“But you are sick and still young.”
I quickly got him up and laid him on the bed.
And I urgently asked the maid passing by the hallway to bring me a fever reducer, all kinds of herbs, notes, and pens.
Lying on the bed, Erhan asked quietly. “……do you know why I’m sick?“
“To be honest, I don’t know.“
I tried hard to diagnose it, but I couldn’t find a disease. If it were an easy disease, Perelman would have already noticed.
Once every thirty minutes, I carefully documented his mana flow and the effects of various prescribed herbs.
Under these conditions, it was clear we wouldn’t be able to eat dinner.
I changed the cold towel on his forehead several times when the fever began to rise.
“……I, I’m okay with this much pain. It’ll get better soon.“
He said so like it was normal, he seemed familiar with hiding this level of symptoms.
“That’s not getting better, but getting used to it. And when you get used to the disease, your body gets worse and worse.“
I said while putting my cold hand from washing the towel on his cheek.
“Go to sleep for now. And this pain isn’t all right.“
“You won’t be able to cure it anyway.”
“But it’s going to be a little better right now.”
“What’s the difference if I’m going to be sick again?”
“If I do my best, you’ll feel a little better.“
I grabbed his slender wrist and injected him with some fluid.
“I did my best as a genius, so you can’t help but recover.“
“……”
“I will definitely cure you, please believe me.”
“Why should I?”
“Because I’m worried about you. This is a doctor’s mission.”
I grinned and patted him on the shoulder.
The shot had the effect of a sleeping pill, so he slowly began to close his eyes.
Once his mana is put to rest, his body will be much more relaxed.
***
It was almost dawn when Erhan opened his eyes.
It was in the afternoon that he had tea time with Lise, who brought the cake, so he must’ve slept for more than twelve hours.
The chronic headache that had been bothering him was gone and his head felt clear.
He originally gave little importance to the people who went to the castle.
In particular, Perelman’s assistants quit so much that he was even less interested in them.
He often felt that they were bothered by his illness, especially when they were measuring his fever or giving medicine on Perelman’s orders.
So at some point, he started to endure the pain alone without pressing the bell for the assistant. His condition won’t get completely better after all, and he doesn’t want to show his weakness to strangers.
The Duchess was busy managing the estate and raising it strictly, so she was used to being vigilant rather than childish.
Of course, he didn’t expect much from the new young assistant this time either……
When she approached him to play ball together, it was rather nice that she was his age.
But she was so affectionate that he thought it would be difficult and sad when she left.
The young girl was recognized by the picky Perelman and she won the heart of her iron castle-like mother……
He was frankly happy when Lise came with the cake so he didn’t want to show her his pain.
However, Lise soon realized that his condition was not good, and immediately began to take action.
Erhan stared at her, sleeping with her face beside his bed.
‘The towel on my forehead is still cold. She must have looked after me all night.’
There was no assistant standing beside him all night for his never-ending illness. After giving the medicine prescribed by Perelman, they would just tell him to call them if anything happened and leave him immediately.
Erhan’s eyes turned to the note next to Lise. His condition, which changed every half hour, is well documented. Even the mana’s change, the response to the herbs, are very meticulously noted down.
‘If I do my best, you’ll feel a little better.’
Her words of doing her best to make him even a little better seemed true.
Erhan stroked her messy brown hair. It seemed he had already given some affection to this new little assistant.
End.of.a.mockingbird
