I'm Stuck on a Remote Island With the Male Leads - Chapter 159
“Yes? I thought he had all his wounds taken care of?!”
“Oh, I don’t think it’s the wounds, he seems to be suffering from some kind of after-effects. I heard that he keeps talking to himself a lot.”
Talking to himself? Is Kayden really okay?
Amidst my worries, Heisen carefully asked again, “If you don’t mind me asking, can you tell me what exactly happened to you?”
Heisen’s question left me speechless for a moment, and then he continued to bombard me with questions.
“How did you disappear so suddenly, where have you been all this time, and what happened to you? I think that’s probably the question that people all over the continent are curious about right now, and it’s the reason for this insane war.”
It was natural to be curious. I expected them to. But there was nothing I could say right now.
Remnants of the Alea Island project still remain. It is presumed that there will be further intervention by the Holy See, House Rohade, and other forces.
So I’d better get a grip on what’s going on before talking to anyone. Rash words will only cause confusion.
“When I think about that time…… it’s still too hard for me……”
I clutched my chest like a tragic heroine and made a pained face. No tears flowed, but I pretended to wipe them away with my fingers.
Heisen and Noel waved their hands in response, looking worried.
“It’s okay, we said something unnecessary……!”
“I’m sorry, young lady. Then please rest.”
I sighed as I watched Heisen and Noel shuffle out of the barracks. I’ll have to ask the others which barracks Kayden is resting in.
I put Eunji, who had shrunk to the size of a snake, into the pocket of my jacket. Probably because she likes to watch things, she poked her head out of my pocket and looked at me curiously.
I chuckled at the cuteness and slid out of bed. The uneaten stew was cooling on the table, but I had no appetite.
I couldn’t stay still because I was worried about Kayden’s condition. I think the after-effects of having his body taken over by Jenas are still strong.
I lifted the curtain of the barracks and looked out cautiously. The knights were bustling about, but I couldn’t see where Heisen and Noel, who guarded the front of the barracks, had gone.
The barracks I am staying in has a blue flag, which Enoch had told me was the color they use to mark the barracks of VIPs.
Kayden’s barracks should has a blue flag, too, so I’ll have to find it.
As I was busy moving around, I could feel the heavy weight of the flare gun in my pocket. Rummaging through my pocket, I briefly held the flare gun in my hand.
The various modern items such as flare bullets, emergency medicine, and grenades that were in my crossbody bag were also brought here. But they are of no further use now.
‘I’m sure people here will be amazed to see it.’
I chuckled and then carefully removed my hand from my pocket.
The barracks of the camp were built on a vast plain. It was an open plain on three sides, with a huge river running through it.
The wide sky comes into view at a glance. Thanks to this, I was able to fully see the setting sun.
While looking for Kayden’s barracks, I quietly looked up at the sunset sky.
‘Beautiful.’
Alea Island with its green scenery was objectively more beautiful. However, the difficult days there did not give me time to admire its natural beauty.
So, somehow, this everyday sky became more deeply embedded in my heart.
Suddenly,
“Lord Havel, have you seen Lady Floné?”
“You mean in her strange clothes? She is strange from head to toe, what a waste of beauty looks.”
“If I hadn’t heard the rumors, I would have fallen in love at first sight; she is dazzlingly beautiful.”
The last comment came from Noel, who had been in my barracks just moments before. Noel’s words, which may or may not have been meant to defend me, were countered by the unknown knights.
“Hey, what’s the point? She’s got a strange personality.”
“When news of ‘missing seven’ first broke, who among you didn’t think that Lady Floné had somehow kidnapped His Highness the Crown Prince? There were actually some people talking about it.”
I stood by the barracks and listened to the knights’ conversation. They appeared to be low-ranking knights, four or five of them sitting together by the river, smoking cigarettes.
“Still, did you see the way they appeared riding the divine beast in the last round of the war?”
“Yeah, that was majestic.”
“Well, then, doesn’t that mean Lady Floné has been with those missing people all this time? To be with someone so terrible…… I can’t imagine it.”
“I think calling her terrible is too much, Sir Mathis.”
The last remark came from Heisen. Perhaps because we had already met, albeit briefly, Noel and Heisen were trying to take my side.
As I stood by the barracks and listened to the chatter, my throat burned sharply. They were very noisy, just like the ladies of society.
“Huh? Wait, do you all see that over there?”
Just then, Noel lowered his voice, as if sensing something unusual.
I turned my head in the direction he was pointing: a still, calm river, but nothing happened even after waiting for a while.
“What? Are you kidding me?”
“Oh, no, it was definitely moving……”
“Boy, you have a lot of fears.”
As the knights continued to tease Noel, I stared at the surface of the water.
It was an instinct. The kind of hunting instinct that comes from living on an uninhabited island for over half a year.
I quickly pulled out my flare gun, opened the magazine, and checked the ammo. I should be able to get two shots off.
Poking her head out of my pocket and flicking her tongue, Eunji slowly slithered up my arm and onto my shoulder.
I slowly loaded the flare gun and lowered the hammer. Then I aimed over the river, ready to pull the trigger.
But the knights continued their conversation without tension.
“Anyway, Sir Heisen, what do you mean it’s too much? There’s no one who doesn’t know that Lady Floné has a very terrible attitude.”
“Hey, axxhole! Who are you calling terrible? Do you want to die?”
“Eh, ah!”
It was Kayden’s voice.
I was so startled that I lowered the flare gun I was holding. Still hiding behind the barracks, I carefully poked my head out to see the situation.
Sure enough. Kayden was pressing his foot firmly into the waist of the knight who had fallen to the ground.
“What are you doing……! Eh? Magic Tower Lord?”
The orange-haired, freckled man looked up in surprise as he was trampled by Kayden.
“Who’s terrible? Margaret? Are you blind?”
Kayden looked at the knights around him, staggering back in surprise.
This is the first time I’ve seen Kayden awake. Thankfully, he seems unharmed. There didn’t seem to be any significant aftereffects as a result of his body having been taken over by Jenas.
“Hey, Margaret is beautiful even when she swears. She’s beautiful even if she doesn’t wash her face and there’s dirt on it. She’s beautiful even when scratching her greasy hair and skillfully grooming a prey. Shut your damn mouth if you don’t know anything about her!”
……the examples are very dirty and specific. That’s true, but Kayden, are you defending me or criticizing me?
I walked forward, watching them with a confused face. I left the barracks to look for Kayden in the first place, so I couldn’t wait to say hello to him.
And just as I opened my mouth to say hello to Kayden,
“Huh? Huh?”
“Shit, a bunch of crocodiles!!”
“Prepare to attack! Prepare to attack!”
There was an uproar. A group of saltwater crocodiles had emerged from the surface of the river where Noel had pointed earlier. There seemed to be nearly a dozen of them.
As the knights fumbled for their weapons, the crocodiles quickly crawled onto the land.
Kayden crossed his arms and took a couple of steps back, watching with interest. He seemed to have no intention of helping the knights.
Talking about me behind my back is one thing, but leaving them to die before my eyes is another. I’d rather make them feel guilty for receiving help from me.
‘That would be fun.’
I pulled out my flare gun again, reloaded it, and aimed it at the group of crocodiles.
The flares would be less effective if they hit the water. I waited calmly for them to hit the ground and then pulled the trigger.
-fizz. boom! boom!
Red smoke cut through the air and flew away, bursting into a roaring flame among the crocodiles.
“Ahh!”
The knights gasped.
Behind me, I could hear other armed knights rushing towards here. But by the time they came, it would be too late.
“Margaret?!”
Kayden looked in my direction in surprise and warped straight to me.
“Margaret, are you okay?”
That’s what I wanted to ask, but that’s not what’s important right now. As the crocodiles charged toward the knights, I shared my mana with Eunji.
“I have a lot of things I want to talk to you about, too, but not now. Move aside for a moment, I’m busy.”
I pushed Kayden to the side and hopped on top of Eunji’s head, which had grown to a decent size after absorbing my mana.
“Margaret!”
I pulled the trigger of the flare gun again, ignoring Kaiyen’s panicked cry, and aimed it at the crocodiles.
-fizz. boom!
Many crocodiles were killed, but one that survived bit the hem of Noel’s cloak.
“Ahh! Please save me!”
Noel screamed in horror as he was helplessly dragged by the crocodile. Shit.
Eunji, with me on her head, quickly slithered towards the river. Just before Noel fell into the river, she managed to bite the crocodile and crushed it into her mouth.
-crunch sound.
The crocodile that Eunji was chewing on still hadn’t released its bite on the hem of Noel’s cloak, but smart Eunji just swallowed the crocodile alone.
Noel, who was dangling with the hem of his cloak caught in Eunji’s sharp teeth, fell to the ground when Eunji shook her head.
‘Phew. I almost got into big trouble.’
With a relieved face, I roughly wiped the cold sweat from my forehead with the back of my hand. While I was checking the magazine of the flare gun while riding on Eunji’s head, I noticed that the surroundings were very quiet.
What?
“Margaret! Are you okay?” Kayden shouted at me through the silence.
He jumped up onto Eunji’s head, scooped me up in his arms, and then dropped to the ground again.
Eunji glared at Kayden in annoyance, then shrank back down on her own.
I got out of Kayden’s arms and crouched down to put Eunji, who had turned into a snake, on my shoulder.
Kayden knelt down on one knee in front of me, carefully checking my condition.
“I knew you’d be fine, but you still scared me.”
I shook my head at his fuss, but smiled when I realized he seemed like his usual self. Thank God. Maybe he’s over the whole Jenas thing.
Smiling, I slowly turned around and came face to face with dozens of armed knights pointing their swords at me.
……shit, I’m startled.
