I'm Stuck on a Remote Island With the Male Leads - Chapter 163
I hope not. It was a question I asked out loud, thinking it would be a no, but to my surprise, Kayden said yes.
“Yes. You should recognize me. After what you’ve done to me, it doesn’t make sense that you don’t recognize me.”
The tone of his voice was eerie enough to give me goosebumps. Somehow, the tone was filled with resentment and venom toward me.
He is definitely Jenas, with Kayden’s face.
Is this a dream……?
I can’t believe it. What the hell happened to Kayden? Is this the barracks where I slept?
Seeing my confused face, Jenas pointed a finger at his chest. “Kayden is asleep in here, and I can only control his body directly when he enters sleep or suspended animation.”
“Uh, how?! Then Kayden is……!”
As soon as I could think clearly again, I grabbed my flare gun, loaded it, and pointed it at him.
This can’t be happening. There’s no way he’s alive, and in Kayden’s body!
Jenas rose from the bed and took a step back. I slowly pulled the hammer down, my finger on the trigger.
“You’re going to attack me with that? This body doesn’t belong to me anyway, do you think you can?” Jenas sneered.
I bit my lower lip, still aiming the flare gun at him.
“There’s no need to be afraid, my descendant is fine, haa……”
Jenas let out an exasperated sigh.
“Damn it, all I can do is stay within the behavioral patterns of my descendant and bring up things he might say. Everything else is restricted.”
“What are you talking about?”
That’s when Eunji slithered up my body and clung to my forearm. She bared her teeth sharply, threatening Jenas.
“How dare you give me a soul-binding contract……”
“A soul-binding contract?”
“I don’t want to say it out loud. Ask my descendant.”
He sighed again, this time in frustration. He looked like he really wasn’t going to answer me anymore, even if I asked.
“Why are you here?”
Jenas shrugged, looking nonchalant. “I wanted to let you know I’m alive. How do you feel? Desperate? Did you think killing me would be so easy?”
He sneered at me. I wanted to punch him in the face.
“My descendant lied to you about me being alive, don’t you feel betrayed?”
“You’re here to turn us against each other?
“Something like that. I still don’t understand. That you ruined everything. And I need to know why, personally.”
What kind of bullshit is this?
Sure, Kayden hadn’t told me about Jenas’ soul, but I knew he hadn’t done it to betray me or stab me in the back. It was all for our own good.
If you’re going to turn us against each other, you have to know who your opponent is. I glared at Jenas.
“Does Kayden know you’re here?”
“No, he doesn’t. He’d freak out if he did. So, Margaret, I don’t want you to tell him about our meeting.”
“Do you think I’m crazy?”
Jenas didn’t answer my question, just stared at my face.
I couldn’t tell what he was thinking. His face was unreadable. I had no idea what he wanted from me.
Then suddenly anger crossed his face. Jenas spat out the words through clenched teeth. “My descendant is awake, damn it. I ended up in this mess because I met you……”
Jenas glared at me like he was going to kill me, and I eventually lost my temper. “Oh, so it’s my fault you’re dead because you met me, because you’re a damned human piece of shit?!”
Of course, at my angry shout, he couldn’t even manage to answer; his eyes slowly closed and his body tilted. I dropped the flare gun in surprise and caught his collapsing body, Kayden’s body to be exact.
“What in the hell happened?”
His eyelashes twitched as I examined his condition, and then his eyes slowly opened.
“……Margaret?”
It was really Kayden this time, and he stared at me wide-eyed for a moment. Then he made a grim face as if he’d figured things out.
“This is really……. haa……”
He ran a hand slowly through his hair.
“Balhyeon,” he muttered.
“Balhyeon!” he shouted in an exasperated tone, losing his cool and stomping his foot.
“Damn you, old man!”
He raked his fingers roughly through his hair. I watched quietly, then called out to him.
“Kayden.”
His pacing stopped. He slowly turned toward me. His red eyes were trembling wildly as he looked at me.
I could see the nervousness in his face. It was one of the few times I’d ever seen Kayden like that.
“How did this happen?”
“Margaret.”
“Isn’t he dead?”
He walked over to me, knelt down in front of the bed, and took my hand.
“I’m sorry.”
“What are you sorry about?”
“For not killing him completely. It was the best I could do.”
The way he looked up at me with his sorry face was somewhat pitiful, his lips quivering. I stared at his face, lost for words for a moment.
He failed to kill Jenas, so he kept him alive and bound inside his own body.
My heart sank. What can I say? Why does Kayden have to suffer like this? My feelings are nothing compared to the pain and despair he must have felt.
“There’s no reason for you to feel sorry for me.”
“Still, I’m sorry. I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want you to feel distressed.”
If anyone should be more distressed by this than me, it’s Kayden. He’s been so deeply connected to Jenas, from the moment he was experimented on as a child to now.
Kayden slowly explained to me the contract he’d made with Jenas.
This explains why the spirits struck Kayden with lightning bolts just before we escaped the island. Because inside Kayden’s body, Jenas was alive.
Noticing my clouded expression, Kayden leaned his cheek against the back of my hand and looked up at me.
“Don’t worry about me. If I die, his soul will be extinguished as well, it’s a soul-binding contract.”
I stood still, looking at his handsome face, and then asked, “Are you okay?”
“What?”
“Are you okay?”
“Margaret, I can’t let my life begin with Rohade and end with Rohade.”
He slowly reached out and gently cupped my cheek. “We have to catch everyone who participated in the experiment. I won’t let Jenas die in peace, I’ll make him suffer forever.”
I squeezed his hand and looked him straight in the red eyes. “You’re right, that’s important. But Kayden, It’s more important to me that you’re safe.”
Kayden’s red eyes widened at my next words. His eyes flashed with a mixture of emotions I couldn’t quite put into words.
“Margaret, I like you so much,” he muttered to himself and slowly rose from his seat, then calmly laid me down on the bed and pulled the covers over me.
Eunji, who was watching, quickly slithered up to my bedside and curled up.
Kayden patted my stomach. “Go to sleep now. Sorry to wake you up in the middle of the night.”
He slowly lowered his head and left a kiss on my forehead. I watched him leave the barracks in silence.
My mind was racing. Jenas was sealed inside Kayden’s body.
How could I sleep after knowing that?
Later, I learned that Jenas, who had been making a lot of noise in Kayden’s head, didn’t speak to him for days after hearing my last words to him.
And we never knew why.

The next day, the entire military camp became noisy in the morning as Enoch meted out punishment to the knights who gossiped about me.
I didn’t want to be a nuisance, so I stayed in my barracks.
“Margaret, are you all right?”
Yuanna, who had come after meeting with people from the Holy See, entered the barracks where I was resting as soon as she arrived.
I was glad to see her, in a moment when my mind was otherwise occupied.
“What about the Archbishop?”
“He’s gone back to his barracks.”
I tilted my head at Yuanna’s answer.
It felt like Ruzef was strangely avoiding me…… but I must be mistaken.
“What about you, aren’t you pushing yourself too hard?” I asked, taking Yuanna’s hand in mine as she climbed up onto my bed, smiling as she did so.
“Yes, I did push myself, so I need to get some rest.”
But, Saintess, why are you doing that here?
“Margaret, lie down too.”
“No, I’m fine……”
“Oh, come on.”
Yuanna tugged on my arm. I was dazedly dragged to her and laid down on the bed with her. Laying back on the extra pillows, Yuanna turned to face me and smiled with an innocent look in her eyes.
“I wanted to do something like this when I had friends, and you’re my first friend.”
I mean, when did we decide to be friends?
“No way, Margaret, do you have any other friends besides me?”
“No, I don’t.”
“Then, we’re both each other’s first friends.”
I can’t believe I’ve had no friends for well over twenty years, and neither has she……
It sounds like a conversation between social misfits, but let’s just ignore that.
In fact, I’ve been longing for a pajama party with my friends, so I guess this isn’t so bad.
“Margaret, can I come in?”
Enoch’s voice came from the barracks entrance.
“Margaret is busy right now.”
Before I could say anything, it was Yuanna who answered. Recognizing that the voice belonged to Yuanna, Enoch pulled open the cloth at the barracks entrance.
He stepped inside and stiffened in surprise when he saw Yuanna and I lying in bed together. The look on his face was that of a man who had just witnessed his wife’s infidelity with his own two eyes.
On the island, we used to sleep together on the ground every night, but now we had to observe social etiquette. I scrambled out of bed, embarrassed.
But Yuanna lay still as she had on Alea Island and waved at Enoch.
“Hi.”
Enoch, who, of course, ignored Yuanna’s greeting, walked over to me.
“Are you all right?”
It was a simple question, but his eyes were attentive as he studied my complexion.
I nodded. “I’m fine.”
And no sooner had I said that than Enoch pulled me into a hug. I blinked blankly in his firm embrace.
Enoch buried his face in my shoulder and sighed deeply. “We didn’t greet each other properly yesterday. I’m glad you’re okay.”
Did we not greet each other properly yesterday? I think we did enough. I stiffened in his arms.
Come to think of it, does Enoch know about Kayden’s condition?
From the time Alea Island exploded and we crossed the portal gate until now, I hadn’t had time to talk to Enoch personally.
But……
I stared puzzled at the people behind Enoch’s back. The knights who seemed to have followed Enoch were standing at the entrance to the barracks, watching us with their mouths agape.
“Hey, Enoch……. I thought you came alone.”
Enoch finally lifted his head and turned around, and the men standing there looked at him, their faces white as if they’d seen a ghost.
I wonder what kind of look does Enoch have on his face?
“Do you have something to say? I believe I told you not to follow me.”
