I'm Stuck on a Remote Island With the Male Leads - Chapter 204
“Oh, before I go.”
As he walked away, Jenas looked back at me. He slowly approached me and snapped his fingers. Then Eunji, who was hanging on my shoulder, was dragged out of the magic circle.
“Eunji!”
-kwaaah!
Eunji struggled as he floated in the air, but Jenas managed to pull him out and trapped him in a separate magic circle.
“Last time, you broke the seal on the sanctuary chamber, so you’re getting special treatment.”
Damn, he must be referring to the time Eunji grew bigger, broke the magic circle seal, and escaped the cabin.
Jenas glanced back at me and smiled brightly before disappearing at a leisurely pace.
As soon as he was gone, I pounded on the transparent barrier and called out to Eunji.
“Eunji, are you okay?”
He nodded in response to my question, following suit and banging his head against the barrier. Then he started to grow in size to break the seal on the magic circle.
But the problem was, no matter how big he got, the seal showed no sign of breaking.
No wonder, really. Jenas must have remembered the incident at the cabin and cast the seal more thoroughly.
As expected, the magic circle didn’t break, only making Eunji uncomfortable with his huge body squeezed inside.
-kwaaah.
Eunji panicked and slithered around, but eventually shrank back down.
‘Let’s rethink this.’
Jenas had probably created the magic circle to seal Eunji based on the fact that she could unseal the magic circle and that she was a monster that absorbed the magic stone.
But Eunji didn’t just absorb the magic stones, he evolved. Jenas doesn’t know that yet, so it’s entirely possible that he could break the seal.
Or maybe I should try a flare – maybe my magic bullets will be just as effective at breaking Jenas’ sealing formula as they were at defeating the Pope.
But then, Arthdal, who had been staring at Eunji from his crouching position, spoke up.
“I think it would be a good idea for you to change into human form and use your mana.”
“What?”
Arthdal shrugged in response to my question.
“You know, I’ve noticed that the flow of his mana seems to be different when he’s in human form than when he’s in snake form… like, some of the more technical aspects of manipulating his mana seem to work better when he’s in human form.”
Eunji, who had been slithering inside the magic circle, lost in thought (or so I could tell), heard that and something must have occurred to him.
He jumped up like a freshly caught fish. He quickly transformed into human form, jumping up and down in his spot, waving his arms at me.
“Unnie! Unnie! Look at Eunji! Eunji can do it!”
“Yeah. I’m watching.”
He nodded with a determined look on his face as he balled up his fists in response to my words. Soon, purple smoke wafted around his body.
Eunji placed his small hand on the transparent barrier of the magic circle, and the purple smoke seeped into it.
The kid pushed his face against the transparent barrier to get out. His face was pressed against it, as if he were trying to break through layers of wrappings.
“Ugh! I- can- do- it!”
After struggling to pronounce the words, Eunji finally broke through the barrier and stepped out. Immediately after, the transparent barrier of the magic circle shattered like broken glass, dripping onto the ground.
“Eunji did it!”
I jumped out of my seat and clapped.
“Good job, Eunji! Good job! Now can you do the same for us? Will it be too hard?”
“Yes! I can do it!”
One by one, Eunji broke through the barrier of the sealed magic circle as he stepped in and out, leaving us free to step out.
I stepped out of the magic circle, feeling refreshed, and looked back at Eunji and Arthdal.
“Thank you, Eunji. Thank you, Your Highness.”
“No worries.”
Arthdal scratched his cheek awkwardly as I thanked him. He suddenly looked embarrassed, as if he wasn’t used to hearing gratitude.
When he finished, Eunji ran to me and hugged me around the waist.
“Unnie, did Eunji do well?”
“Yes, good job.”
I stroked his hair and lavished praise on him while the others who escaped the magic circle gathered themselves. He looked up at me with a happy face and opened his arms.
“Let’s hug Eunji!”
“That would be too hard for Margaret. Come here. I’ll give you a hug.”
Enoch, who had arrived right in front of us, gently picked him up.
“Unnie, I know it’s hard. But Eunji thinks Unnie’s hug is tighter.”
“You did a good job of breaking the barrier. But in times like this, you have to be able to resist what you want to do to be a real adult.”
“Ng……. E- Eunji is an adult, so Eunji will put up with it for a while.”
Eunji nodded in Enoch’s arms, saying that he was an adult, and he stroked his hair gently, feeling proud of him.
Arthdal and Yuanna took turns stroking his head and praising him, and several of Langridge’s knights patted him on the head as well.
Enoch finally looked at me. His face was full of concern.
“Margaret, are you all right?”
“I’m fine. Thank you for your concern.”
I smiled brightly at Enoch, then turned to the group gathered around us.
“I’ve been thinking,” I said, “I think Jenas went to the bunker. If he’s looking for something on this island, what more could he possibly have than the mana he’s been gathering for a thousand years?”
If there was anything Jenas could find on the island, it was that. The portal was in the bunker, so a thousand years of collected mana might be stored there somewhere.
I scanned the area. The land had been so ruined that the great mountain that once stood on the North Island was nowhere to be seen. I doubt a bunker would be safe in the remnants of this explosion, but it’s the site of a portal, so maybe they’ve done something to protect it.
“Hmm. Then Jenas should have gotten to the bunker by now. He’s an archmage, so he should be able to do teleport.”
I glanced at Enoch and then at Yuanna. There was actually a reason we were so relaxed. The key to our plan was the purification power she would use to close the dimensional rift.
Yuanna stood up from where she was casually sitting on the dirt and asked, “Shall I start the purification now? It would be troublesome if Jenas teleported away again.”
Arthdal stopped her. “Wait a moment, Saintess. Our purpose isn’t just to close the dimensional rift. We need to find the Lord and the Archbishop first. Let’s wait a little while.”
“I think I heard that Lord had a plan. Then we’d better wait.”
I nodded and agreed with Arthdal and Enoch.
“That’s right, we should just wait. I don’t know what Kayden has planned, but let’s give him some time. Jenas told me earlier that he was going to take me away and that I should wait here, so I’m sure he’ll be back.”
Hearing my words, Yuanna sank back into her seat with a frown.
“Okay. We’ll just wait for the sun to set as low as it is, and if we still don’t hear from him, we’ll start planning.”
“We all agree on that.”
At Yuanna’s words, Enoch nodded, and Arthdal and I agreed.
I pulled a small video sphere from my bomber jacket pocket.
“I’ve got the sphere I was using to contact Sir Diego earlier,” I said, “and I think I’ll try to contact him while we’re at it. We need to find the Archbishop, too, and he’s probably off the island, so I’d better relay the situation.”
I channeled my mana into the sphere and a thick mist filled the clear glass sphere, and then the smoke cleared to reveal Diego’s face.
[Lady Floné, are you all right? I arrived at the dock a little while ago, and I’ve heard from the rest of the people here.]
Diego’s face appeared in the video sphere, asking me if I was okay.
I was startled to see Ruzef’s face next to Diego’s.
“Archbishop?! Are you okay, are you really the Archbishop?”
His white priestly robe was covered in blood. His face didn’t look healthy either.
[It’s me. It’s not my blood, don’t worry. Lady Vanessa is also fine.]
Ruzef said with a forced smile, then checked on Vanessa next to him. I was relieved to see that both of them were unharmed.
“Archbishop is alive! I knew it!”
“Please, please, be quiet. Jenas is coming.”
“Excuse me, Saintess. I think you sometimes forget that I am the Crown Prince of the Kingdom.”
“That’s because you do things that make me forget.”
“Really?”
I chuckled to myself as I listened to Arthdal and Yuanna’s conversation. How could they be so carefree in such a serious situation?
“Anyway, now we just need to find Lord.”
Arthdal summarized the current situation, his face still nonchalant. Thank goodness one of our biggest worries had been solved.
[Oh, and wait a minute, young lady.]
Then Ruzef called me back.
[I have recovered one magic stone from Archbishop Rinnehaon, the rest were run off by……. Marquis Rohade, sorry.]
After hearing Ruzef’s words, I understood. Jenas had indeed absorbed all the remaining magic stones.
“I’m grateful you’re still alive, so don’t say you’re sorry. Also, do you think you could bring that magic stone through reinforcements? Eunji might need it.”
At my words, Ruzef nodded, his face determined. I sent him the coordinates that had floated around the gate as Jenas opened the portal gate, opening the ‘door’ to the island.
After warning them to be careful, I turned off the video sphere and sighed.
Meanwhile, the knights of the Langridge Empire, seeing Alea Island for the first time, looked around in wonder. Behind them, Yuanna looked around the cabin familiarly, rummaging through the rubble.
“It’s amazing to see those shoes and clothes again.”
I tucked the sphere into my bomber jacket pocket and tightened the laces of my boots, then looked up. Arthdal wandered over and stood looking at me.
Just then, Yuanna returned. In her hands are an axe and a crossbow. Those were the weapons she and Arthdal had used in the cave when we’d gone to find the mother of monsters.
“Look at this, Margaret. I found this lying under the cabin.”
Yuanna said, brandishing the axe in her hand. A saint, dressed in a holy and virtuous clerical robe, wielding an axe.
She tossed the crossbow in her other hand to Arthdal with a casual motion. Arthdal caught the crossbow, grumbling about the need for another weapon, but dutifully searched for suitable arrows.
“It’s good to have a weapon that you can put to good use, Saintess.”
“Gee, are you still going to call me Saintess? When are you going to start calling me by my nickname?”
I was suddenly reminded by her comment that I had never called her by her first name. We had agreed to be friends.
“Okay, Anna.”
Her face lit up like a flickering light bulb, and she nodded her head vigorously, looking thrilled. As if it meant the world to her that I had called her by her nickname.
“Okay, Meg.”
I couldn’t help but smile along with her when she called me.
My heart ached. This is the best friend I’ve ever had, and now I have to say goodbye.
Regardless, we had to finish this operation as quickly as possible. Before Jenas gained even more power and got his hands on the dimensional rift.
But as always, things didn’t go as planned.
“Oh no, everybody watch out. Something’s coming.”
Arthdal, dutifully fulfilling the role of a magic detector, called out. We soon encountered a group of hungry monsters who had barely survived the flooding of North Island.
They began to flock together as if drawn by something. It was in the direction of the traces of the magic circle Eunji had shattered.
“……!”
As it turned out, the mana Jenas currently used was the power he had absorbed from the magic stone. The same magic stone that summoned the monsters.
Damn Alea Island. Damn Jenas.
“This time, I’m going to wipe them all out.”
Enoch muttered as he drew his sword. Arthdal and Yuanna raised their respective weapons, and I nodded, pulling the flare gun from my pocket.
“Aye, let’s do it. This damn Alea Island, those damn monsters, and that bastard Jenas. This is their last.”
