Sick Husband's Contract Wife - Chapter 3
Thud.
As soon as our fingers stopped touching, he retracted his hand and rubbed it like crazy, as if he had touched something dirty. He was still giving me that angry look.
“Get lost.”
He said it again.
He would probably throw me out the window as soon as he could get out of bed. I took another big breath.
He’s a sick person.
But it wasn’t at all clear that he was sick from how he was acting.
But I was sure that he wasn’t just making it up.
Right now, the most important thing was that he was safe. He can’t keep fainting.
I decided to lull him.
“Amoide, you need to sleep. Raymond told me you shouldn’t be shocked or mad about anything…”
Again, “Get lost.”
He moved his pale lips and spat out more angry words.
I paid close attention to every word he said as I bit the inside of my mouth.
I can now deal with this.
I clenched my teeth. I had been treated like this before, so it’s impossible to feel angry.
“You’ll never get what you want from me, no matter how hard you try. Don’t even consider it.”
But this insult made me very angry.
“Who said that?”
After I said something snarky, his eyes moved.
He looked at me with eyes that were narrowed. I understood what was happening.
I have never done anything like this before.
Now that I think about it, I didn’t have to hide the anger that was growing inside me.
No one can restrict my behavior because Camilla wasn’t here.
I could feel that the maids were watching me closely from behind.
This would be the first time they have seen me act like this.
How dare I, Selene.
Even though the title ‘Duchess’ sounds nice, I was just a shell that Camilla put here.
“What did you say…?”
He was shocked and looked at me with wide-open eyes. Because of this, I could see his clear blue eyes even better.
I suddenly thought of Camilla’s words, which were both a brag and a gripe about how hard it was to find the right color to show those blue eyes in a picture.
“What I said? Why are you even getting angry at me when you just woke up? Do you have spare energy or what?”
“…”
His blue eyes looked at me as if he saw a never-seen-before type of insect.
“Stop being grumpy, because it’s bad for your health. Go back to bed and take your medicine.”
I picked up the medicine bottle that had been left on the floor.
“Drink this.”
When I gave Amoide medicine, he looked at it as if I had given him poison.
I felt a sense of strange pride at this moment.
Right, he just wants me out of here.
“Do you want me to help you drink?”
I got closer to him and whispered to him while trying to smile sweetly.
“Here, ah, please drink.”
I held the medicine bottle up to his mouth.
Amoide’s face looked funny when I talked and moved in a flirty way.
‘What’s up? You can’t stand it anymore, right?’
I’m doing something I’ve never done before, so it’s inevitable.
I smiled as happiness filled my heart. As I raised my lips, Amoide’s eyebrows got even closer together.
“Some people say you’re crazy. Is that true?”
Yes, try to be in my shoes. You’ll go mad, too.
As I looked into his fierce eyes, I gave him a smile.
It won’t help to just stare. You’re just good-looking.
In fact, no matter what a beautiful person says or does, they can’t lose their unique beauty.
It was a shame to have such a good face and not know how to use it better.
I smiled at him with kindness because I felt bad for him.
“Maybe.”
I said yes when asked if I was crazy. Even more, Amoide’s face looked funny when I answered.
Well, I understand.
When he looked at me before, I would shrink like a snail, but now I was talking back to him, which must have been strange for him.
I also knew some of the reasons why he was acting so badly.
As the saying goes, a healthy body really does house a healthy mind.
He had a very strange attitude because he had a weak body and a disease that caused him to have seizures for no clear reason. Then, one day, a woman he had never met before walked into the ducal house and said she was his wife.
His mother kept telling him to have a child because he could die at any time. His wife, who always did what she was told, only saw him as a way to keep the family name alive.
How can he not act like a bastard?
What did money, social status, and a high rank have to do with anything? I suddenly felt sorry for them.
So I decided to be kind and look at things from many different points of view.
If Amoide dies too soon, it would hurt me more than anything else.
He must live a long, happy life and then die. That has to be the case. Please, it has to be.
“Don’t look at me like that.”
He frowned once more.
“What did I do?”
“You look at me like I’m a sick dog that’s about to die.”
I was found out.
I must not have meant to, but I must have given him a sad look. I turned away because it made me feel bad.
People are already feeling sorry for this sick and noble duke, which must hurt him a lot.
I couldn’t say anything, so I rolled my eyes. Suddenly, Amoide grabbed the medicine out of my hand like a hawk taking a chick.
“Uh…”
I was shocked as I looked at Amoide, but he quickly put the medicine in his mouth and drank some water.
He wiped the water that had dripped from the corner of his mouth with the open arm of his shirt.
“You did great.”
I loudly clapped my hands like a proud parent.
When Amoide saw what I did, he stiffened up like a log and stopped wiping the medicine out of his mouth.
Even the maids didn’t know what was going on, so they looked at each other and tried to figure out what was going on.
One of them slowly lifted her middle finger and twisted it around her head to show she thought I might be crazy.
No matter what, I always smiled at him, and he always spoke with an irritated look.
“Are you satisfied now?”
“Yes.”
“Then get lost.”
“Of course.”
I stood up and said nothing more.
“Then get some rest.”
I didn’t turn around after I said goodbye to him and left the room.
I could tell that someone was looking at me from behind, but I didn’t turn around to see who it was.
I let out a long sigh as the door slammed shut.
I felt like I’d just gotten out of a fight. I felt sick and my head hurt.
“Are you okay?”
Rona, who was following me around, asked.
“This isn’t the first or second time this has happened to me.”
I replied with a shoulder shrug. It didn’t happen for the first or second time. Since I married into this family, I’ve known Amoide the same way.
He was always rude, and I never liked the way he looked at me.
No matter how he looked at me, touched me, or smelled me… wait, what?
I stopped resting against the wall and asked, “Do I smell?”
“Excuse me?”
Rona’s eyes got big because she didn’t get what I was asking.
I got a piece of hair from behind me and smelled it.
No matter how much I smelled it, all I could smell was a nice scent from the well-kept hair.
I stuck out my arm and inhaled. I could only smell soap and a little bit of perfume.
But that wasn’t the problem.
I knew what made him dislike me the most.
“Sometimes, the Master can be too much.”
“I can’t stop him. Even I would dislike myself.”
“But still…”
Rona took a moment to stop and rub her hands together.
“I’m acting like I don’t know, but I know that everyone is calling me the ‘unofficial Duchess.’”
“…”
As soon as I finally said the word, Rona’s face turned white.
“My lady, I, I swear…”
“I know you haven’t done that, but everyone calls me that.”
When I answered in a relaxed way, Rona seemed to lose even more color.
“I’m good. Leave me alone.”
I got rid of her by waving my hand over it. At the moment, it didn’t matter.
When Rona saw that my hand was shaking, she got a serious look on her face.
“Oh no, how’s your hand?”
When Rona saw my hand shaking, she got scared.
“Ah.”
Then I looked more closely at the hand he had grabbed earlier.
His strong grip made my hand red and numb. It was also swollen and looked like it would get a bruise soon.
“Yes, everything is fine.”
Even though I thought something might be broken, I thought it would be okay as long as I could move it.
“It doesn’t bother me.”
It was nothing compared to what was to come.
“You care a lot, my lady,” Rona said
Sting.
“And he doesn’t even realize it…”
Sting.
Part of my heart hurt when Rona talked, which made me wince.
“Still, I’m glad. Since two weeks ago, he’s been sick, and you’ve been so out of it…”
Rona kept talking while sniffling, but then she gasped and put her hand over her mouth.
“I just, I just…”
As I looked at Rona, whose face turned bright red as she mumbled, I let out a deep sigh.
“I get it, and that makes sense.”
“…Excuse me?”
Rona was surprised at how quickly I said yes.
“I must have seemed insane.”
I thought about what I’d done over the past two weeks.
